Our Consulting Professionals
Ed Pudlowski is the Chief Operating Officer and Senior Health and Welfare Plan Consultant for American Fidelity Administrative Services (AFAS). Ed has more than 30 years of experience in developing human resource philosophies and supporting strategies to improve employer’s return on their investment in human capital. Prior to joining AFAC, Ed was a Partner with Ernst & Young where he led the employer strategy task force on Health Care Reform. He has also worked for two large employee benefit consulting firms as well as a large health insurance company. Ed is a frequent speaker on health care reform and other health and welfare plan issues and has published several articles in national business magazines covering health care reform, financial risk in human resources and quality in health care. Ed holds a BS in Applied Mathematics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries (CCA). Ed also holds a position on the CCA’s Board of Directors and its Healthcare Reform Community Group.
Che Yi is a Senior Health and Welfare Plan Consultant for AFAS. He has 20 years of experience advising plan sponsors on their benefits program. Throughout his career, he has helped organizations evaluate their plan design, explore funding alternatives, develop pricing, and model financial alternatives. Che utilizes a data-driven approach to develop practical solutions for plan sponsors. Che has a diverse consulting background, having worked for Mercer, Deloitte & Touche, and Towers Perrin as a Health and Welfare consultant. He has worked with employers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Montana, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Che graduated from Loyola Marymount University, with a degree in Finance and has completed graduate courses in Health Informatics from Brandeis University. He is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist and a Professional in the Academy of Healthcare Management. He holds his life and health license, and consultant license in the states which he advises clients.
Susan Relland is the Vice President and CEO AFAS. One of her primary responsibilities is creating Health Care Reform educational resources for customers and monitoring developments in the law. Prior to joining AFA in 2010, Susan was an employee benefits attorney with the law firm of Miller & Chevalier in Washington, DC, where she advised companies on health and welfare plan design and compliance issues, and was an active participant in the Health Care Reform legislative debate. Before joining Miller & Chevalier, Susan was a health and welfare plan consultant with Ernst & Young’s Human Capital practice and served as the Health Policy Legal Counsel for the American Benefits Council. Susan is a recognized expert on Health Care Reform and does extensive writing and public speaking on health and welfare plan matters. She is a graduate of the University of North Texas and Tulane Law School, and is a member of the Texas and District of Columbia bar associations.
Monica Schermier is a Health Care Reform Consultant with AFAS. Her exclusive responsibility is helping employers with Health Care Reform: she monitors developments in the law, makes presentations to association groups, and works one-on-one with employers to help them understand the rules, develop their strategies, and assist with compliance. She has been with American Fidelity since 2010 and worked as an account manager for American Fidelity Assurance Company in Indiana prior to specializing in Health Care Reform. She holds a BSN in Nursing from Indiana University and has 15 years experience in healthcare management, pharmaceuticals, and patient care.
